Faro`s Landscape

Faro's history can be traced back to Roman times when it was known as Ossonoba. The Romans established a settlement here, and archaeological remains, such as the Milreu ruins, attest to their presence.

Faro`s Airport

Faro Airport has its origins in the 1960s when the Algarve region began to experience an increase in tourism. The existing airfield was upgraded to accommodate international flights, and in 1965, the airport officially opened to commercial traffic.

As the Algarve became a popular tourist destination, especially during the summer months, Faro Airport underwent expansions and improvements to handle the growing number of passengers. The airport's proximity to popular resorts and beaches contributed to its importance in serving the tourism industry.
