Granada

The Alhambra holds something truly special. Its location, dimensions, architecture, and history all contribute to its allure. Perched strategically on the al-Sabika hill, facing the Albaicín neighborhood with the Sierra Nevada mountains in the background, the Alhambra is an integral part of Granada's landscape and history. Considered the eighth wonder of the world, the Alhambra, meaning "red castle," is an unparalleled Arab citadel, palace, and fortress.

Your journey begins with a transfer from your hotel or apartment. Upon arrival, you embark on an extensive tour of this monumental complex. First, you visit the Generalife Palace, built between the 12th and 14th centuries, which served as a retreat for Muslim kings. Adjacent to the palace are its stunning gardens, where water plays a fundamental role in creating the ambiance. The tour continues to the Palace of Charles V. King Charles V of Spain, also known as Emperor Charles V, decided to construct his royal palace within the Alhambra complex following his visit to Granada after his marriage to Isabel of Portugal in 1526. Despite its impressive design and formal quality, its placement altered the space's original image, changing its interior structure and its connection to the city. The decision to locate the palace within the Alhambra symbolized Christianity's triumph over Islam.

The highlight of the tour is undoubtedly the Nasrid Palaces, known for their unparalleled beauty. This palace complex served as the residence of the kings of Granada. Founded by Alhamar in the 13th century, most of the surviving buildings date back to the 14th century. Within their walls, the Nasrid Palaces encapsulate the refinement and delicacy of the last Hispano-Arab governors of Al Andalus.

Three palaces make up this complex: the Mexuar, the Palace of Comares, also known as Yusuf I, and the Palace of the Lions, or Mohammed V.

After the tour, you return to your hotel or the city center to explore Granada at your leisure.
